Our five senses
Séraphine Menu & Delphine Chedru
An original book reflecting on the part our senses play in how we connect with others and build societies.
Over almost 100 pages, this book goes beyond the scientific aspect of the five senses to offer a social approach. Indeed, far from being individual objects, our senses allow us to connect with our environment and with other living beings. A friendly gesture is sometimes more comforting than words; songs unite and give the strength to fight; other people’s smell can provoke disgust, while a good-smelling meal is often the chance for a moment of sharing. But our relation to our senses varies depending on the group we belong to: our clothes, food, music, words differ from one culture or time to another!
Séraphine Menu’s easy-to-read texts, full of concrete examples, are enlightened by Delphine Chedru’s playful design mixing drawings and photographs with vivid colours.
