Ice Hunter
Séraphine Menu & Marion Duval
A stunning picture book telling with sensibility the life of a little boy around the Lake Baikal.
Yuri lives in Siberia, on the edge of the Lake Baikal, the oldest lake in the world. With him, we discover life in this remote, fascinating environment: the short but dazzling winter days, the Buryat neighbours, the fast ongoing depopulation movement…
During winter, Yuri’s father hunts, not animals, but ice: giant ice cubes from the lake that people use to drink, wash, and cook until summer… indeed, it’s so cold the taps are frozen! Yuri’s story alternates with non-fiction pages that describe the regional wildlife and plant life: trees, birds, fishes…
A beautiful book that mixes fiction and non-fiction and takes the reader to a captivating setting.
