A Shelter
Adrien Parlange

A book that invites us to give up fears, prejudice, and wild instincts to unite and make room for others.

Under a burning sun, in the middle of the desert, the shade is rare. Only a small rock provides coolness. A child comes up and lays there, shielded from the sun. A snake joins her, followed by a fox, a hare, a hedgehog, a wild boar, a little goat and, lastly, a flock of birds. As the hours go by, the shade moves like a clock and the group gets larger: each character must find its place, a comfortable position in this tiny oasis of coolness. The reader dreads the arrival of each newcomer: will the snake bite the child, and the fox eat the hare? But when the sun finally sets, it’s a joyful and united crew that comes out of the shadow…

With simplicity and precision, Adrien Parlange plays with tension and amusement to build a surprising group in a clever architecture. A little miracle that will leave the reader joyful,
